Ashton Maintains its 100% Matric Pass Rate

Ashton International College continues to celebrate outstanding 2020 Matric Results with another 100% IEB Matric pass rate by the Class of 2020.  This comes shortly after the phenomenal results achieved in the External Cambridge AS and A Level results, which also gave Ashton 100% pass rate.    “Ashton’s matric students produced a brilliant set of results in the challenging IEB final examinations, giving the College another 100% pass rate.  Significantly 98,28% of Ashton’s students achieved a Bachelor Degree pass, and 100% of all Ashton’s students will be able to study further at a tertiary institution,” said Senior College Head, Mrs Jenny van Buuren.  Kevin Boodhram achieved the top result with 7 distinctions of which two were above 90% and an aggregate of 88,42%.  Shriyan Singh (Proxime Accessit) placed 2nd with an aggregate of 88,29% and 7 distinctions.  Shriyan also placed in the top 1% nationally for Accounting with an average of 96%.  Declan Ronan who placed joint 4th overall amongst Ashton’s Class of 2020, also placed in the top 1% nationally for Business Studies with an average of 94%.   Congratulations to Christopher Johnstone who  achieved in the top 1% Nationally for Mathematical Literacy with an average of 95% as well as an overall A aggregate.  Ashton’s Top Twelve all achieved A aggregates, which is a phenomenal feat.  “Today we not only congratulate the top achievers, but every young man and young lady who achieved way beyond their potential through perseverance, dedication and discipline during what some have described as the most difficult year in modern history,” added Mrs van Buuren.

“As Head of the Senior College I am incredibly proud of the Class of 2020 who showed grit and determination during a challenging year. Despite the COVID19 pandemic, all of our students were able to sit their final Cambridge and IEB examinations under strict COVID19 protocols on campus. Not a single examination, in fact, from Grade 8 through to matric had to be written online.   The 100% pass rate is a reflection of the excellence we strive for.  Once again I am thrilled to see how the students matured and one of the indicators is the fact that 59.55% achieved B symbols and above, whilst 83.08% achieved C symbols and above.   105 Distinctions were recorded and the Top Ten Ashton candidates achieved 55 distinctions equating to an average of 5,5 distinctions per candidate,” said Mrs van Buuren.  Over and above the 105 Distinctions, 138 B symbols were recorded and 92 C symbols reflecting the depth of our excellence.  58% of the students recorded B aggregates, and 94% of our students achieved an aggregate of more than 60%.

“We are thrilled that the excellence we continuously strive for extends to every single subject that we offer, with wonderful achievements being recorded.  With 57 out of 58 students achieving a Bachelor Degree pass, I would like to acknowledge every single student for their commitment and dedication throughout the Matric Trial Examinations and pulling out all stops to increase their overall subject averages in the finals.  At this time I would like to congratulate and thank our highly dedicated and professional staff for empowering our students to soar to new heights, and I am eternally grateful to have you all as members of our Ashton family,” said Mrs van Buuren.

Ashton continuously strives for Excellence and celebrates the hard work, discipline and dedication that the students displayed making themselves, their families and their teachers so proud.  A truly excellent set of results for Ashton.  “Our weekly support lessons and the time and effort the staff put in so selflessly during the holidays and weekends to ensure that students did not lose academic time during lock down and after schools returned, resulted in the phenomenal improvement on their trial and year marks.  Although the staff place tremendous emphasis on focussing and working hard throughout the year, it is during this last stretch that their confidence was boosted with emotional support from everyone,” said Mr Erasmus, Managing Director of Ashton International Colleges.

Even though success in these final IEB examinations is a culmination of many years’ hard work, family members, parents and friends also play such an integral part in the success of these students.  “Thank you to every single one of the members of their support group – for encouragement, prayers, and nurturing them throughout this examination period.”

We are confident that each and every Ashton student is well prepared emotionally and spiritually for the next stage of their journey and wish them every success in their choice of Tertiary Study.
