Shaped like a traditional spearhead, the classroom is also equipped with the newest technology. Ashton International College Ballito’s isiZulu students can now study in style at the school’s recently opened Language Village. The beautiful new classroom is shaped like a traditional spearhead and carries many symbols of Zulu culture. It also comes equipped with a smart board and projector, ensuring Head of isiZulu, Philisiwe Ngwenya, has everything she needs at her fingertips. “It is an absolute privilege to have this new classroom and we are thrilled with how it has turned out,” said Ngwenya. “The cultural aspect of isiZulu is so important and that is front and centre in the Language Village.” Ashton currently has 65 students formally studying isiZulu in the Senior College and Ngwenya said she hoped the classroom would attract more people to the language. “It feels like a real home for the subject and language and we would love to have more students join us,” she said.

The classroom was officially unveiled last week Friday with staff and students alike joining in on the celebrations.
