Form 3 student, Lyra Rapley was selected for the South African Mathematics Team competing in the International Mathematics Competition in Lucknow, India.
The competition took place from 25 – 31 July 2024. The final 16 team members spent a week training in Bloemfontein learning combinatorics, number theory, and cultivating a team strategy.
The participants from 30 different countries including USA, China and Singapore competed in individual and team rounds and gave performances showcasing the culture of their countries.
Lyra performed very well, she was one of only three members of the South African team to earn a merit in the individual round.
In addition to the above, Lyra took part in the SAMF Mathematics Olympiad in 2023 and achieved an unprecedented score of 100% in the junior individual round.
For her achievements in representing her country in an international Mathematics competition, Lyra has been awarded Honours.
Ashton is extremely proud of Lyra. In her pursuit of excellence she shows exceptional self-motivation and conducts herself in a manner that truly wins the support and admiration of her peers.
